Usability

Would you be consulting this Web site if you had to read an inch-thick manual and make three phone calls to get here? Probably not. People rarely want to deal with products that are pointlessly complex, slow, or just plain incomprehensible.

A good product is one that helps the customer achieve his or her goals. A successful product is one that makes achieving these goals easier than competing products do. Making a product that is easy to use, be it a mobile application, a Web site, or even a door handle, creates a major competitive advantage.

Don’t let a good product fall into the clutches of bad usability! Head to Getting Started and find out what usability is all about.

If you are already well versed in usability issues, check out the Documents section for the newest Nokia UI-related documents.

Tip of the month

Make sure user fills needed information

  • Mark mandatory fields with a star or, alternatively, change the right softkey label to "Done" only after the mandatory fields have been filled.
  • Only mark those fields mandatory that are mandatory for user to define – for others provide suitable default values in case they need to be defined to make things work.
