Common Support Questions

Help on selecting the right CodeWarrior Product

There are three different kinds of CodeWarrior products. Each are designed for the specific needs of the different kinds of developers.

The Personal Edition is designed for the ISV developer who develops code on well established phone platforms.

  • Designed for a single developer (floating licenses are not an option with this edition)
  • Develop code mostly on the SDK emulator (Series 60, UIQ, Techview)
  • Little or no debug requirements on the actual phone

The Professional Edition is designed for the advanced ISV developer or integrator who develops code on pre-release phone platforms or is a Symbian licensee but is not designing the actual phone.

  • Designed for a single (node-locked) or shared (floating license) environments
  • Develop code on the SDK emulator (Series 60, UIQ, Techview) but relies on debugging on the phone.

The OEM Edition is designed for device creation or OEM. These developers often start with reference designs and are Symbian licensees.

  • Develop and debug using JTAG emulators from Lauterbach, MIDAS, Sophia, etc.
  • Starting with a reference board from a semiconductor vendor such as TI or Intel.
  • Designed for a single (node-locked) or shared (floating license) environments
  • Responsible for board bring up and porting of the Symbian operating system
  • Debug kernel level or low level drivers

What are my purchasing options - do I have to buy from the web store?

New orders for CodeWarrior node-locked licenses may be purchased via the web, all other orders including upgrades and floating licenses must be handled by a sales representative. Please see the different license options below.

  1. Our standard license is a "node-locked" license that is locked to an address of a device on your PC. Ethernet and wireless devices contain a unique identifier known as a MAC address. Disk drives have a unique identifier as well. Node locked licenses may be locked to either the MAC address (most common) or the disk ID.
  2. The second method for licensing a CodeWarrior product is a floating license. Floating licenses provide customers the most flexibility to support a development team over a network, but can also be a bit tricky to manage. Floating licenses are 2x the price of a standard license.
