Introduction to Nokia VoIP Framework
VoIP solutions are replacing circuit-switched fixed voice in homes and offices. This trend has been especially prevalent in countries such as Japan and the United States, with similar developments emerging in France and several other European countries as well.
The next step in this evolution is the enablement of Voice over IP in mobile devices. With the introduction of the Nokia Voice over IP Framework, consumers will be able to make all types of voice calls with their mobile devices – including Internet calls. Making an Internet call will not differ from making any other type of voice call. The goal of this capability is to make the mobile device more useful and multifunctional.
The framework gives SIP-based VoIP service providers the ability to integrate their offerings into the familiar telephony functionality of the multimedia computer.
Nokia N80 Internet Edition was the first multimedia computer, and the first Nokia device, to implement the Nokia S60 Voice over IP Framework. For SIP VoIP service providers, such as mobile and broadband operators, VoIP communities, and other service providers.
The latest addition to roadmap is the Nokia Series 40 SIP VoIP framework, and Nokia 6300i will be the first device to introduce it. For more information on the Series 40 VoIP implementation.
