SNAP Mobile Handset and Network Test
SNAP Mobile is designed to work on all MIDP2.0 handsets. However, there has been some variance among different handset types and different manufacturers. Some operators have their port and/or APN settings configured to block SNAP Mobile API — or any other third party data packets — going through their gateway.
Due to the issues above, Nokia strongly recommends that all game developers use the Handset and Network Testing Tool MIDlet, provided with the SDK, to conduct the SNAP Mobile Handset and Network Test on the target handsets and under the target networks before starting the development for a SNAP Mobile game.
This testing tool was designed so developers can verify the compatibility of certain handset devices and networks before investing time in developing applications for incompatible devices or networks.
Setting up the SNAP Mobile Handset and Network Testing tool takes about 10-15 minutes and it is recommended that the test be run for at least 30-60 minutes for each target operator network. However, the network test can be run for much longer periods of time to acquire information on different periods of high or low activity on the target network.
Handset Network Test Process
1. Handset and Network Testing Tool
Obtain the Handset and Network Testing Tool MIDlet and the SNAP Mobile Handset and Network Test Instructions document, which are included in SNAP Mobile SDK (SDK 1.2 onwards).
2. Test
Follow the Test Instructions. Conduct the test to see if your target handsets and operator networks are compatible. The submission function inside the MIDlet submits the test results automatically.
