The Americas Market Overview

The U.S. has a total of 219.4 million subscribers, a 73.5 percent penetration rate. Even with almost three-quarters of the population using mobile devices, the market for third-party applications in the Americas is not as mature as the markets in Europe or the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. Ring tones, casual games, and themes are popular downloads, but the market for smartphone applications is still in its infancy, growing with the launch and success of such S60 3rd Edition devices as the Nokia E62.

The Latin American market seems to be mirroring that of Western Europe, which is undergoing a wave of consolidation. Unlike Europe however, in Latin America, two regional superpowers are battling for supremacy: Mexico City-based América Móvil and Spain's Telefónica SA.

Forum Nokia engages with PRO developers in the Americas region, providing access to business groups within Nokia as well as operators — both locally and abroad. Forum Nokia regularly schedules Tech Days to educate developers about platform technologies; matchmaking events through which PRO developers are introduced to operators and Nokia device teams; and other developer events.

Forum Nokia knows that we can be successful only if mobile developers can successfully get their applications to market. For that reason, we are pleased to provide you with information on mobile operators and how to contact them for more information.
