Mika Raento’s technical passion focuses on privacy management in ubiquitous computing. His PhD thesis Exploring privacy for ubiquitous computing: Tools, methods and experiments (PDF) won the Annual Doctoral Thesis Prize by the Finnish Information Processing Association. His research team at the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology created the ContextPhone prototyping platform for context-aware mobile applications targeted at Nokia's S60 smartphones. He worked with Jyri Engestrom and Finnish startup Jaiku Ltd. to create a Web service and an S60 application that allowed people to publish their Life stream on the Web and follow the Life streams of their friends. He followed the team to Google when they acquired Jaiku in October 2007.

Because Forum Nokia wants forum.nokia.com community members to know how very much their hard work and involvement is appreciated, we have launched Forum Nokia Champion, a recognition and reward program for top mobile developers from around the world. Forum Nokia Champions are outstanding individuals who are selected on the basis of their outstanding skills and devotion to the Forum Nokia community.
Every six months Forum Nokia evaluates registrants activity in various Forum Nokia-related online and offline channels, awarding Forum Nokia Champion membership to a limited number of top performers. The one-year membership in the Forum Nokia Champion reward program entitles honorees to take advantage of benefits accessible exclusively to Forum Nokia Champions.
Forum Nokia Champions earn recognition for having outstanding expertise in certain Forum Nokia-related areas, participating in various online and offline activities, and sharing and showcasing their knowledge with other Forum Nokia members. Forum Nokia Champions are from all regions of the world, have a variety of backgrounds, and are experts in wide-ranging mobile-development areas. But they all have one thing in common: Forum Nokia Champions are loyal Forum Nokia members whose professionalism enriches the community for all of us.
