Mr. Mika Raento
Ph.D. (Computer Science)
United Kingdom
I am a software engineer at Google, working on social mobile applications.
Before joining Google I worked at Jaiku, a Finnish startup. At Jaiku we created a Web service and an S60 application that allowed a person to publish his or her “activity stream” on the Web and follow the activity streams of friends. The S60 client brought Live Contacts, an address book with presence — location, availability, and activity stream updates. Jaiku was acquired by Google in October 2007. You can see the service in action at www.jaiku.com.
Jaiku grew in part out of my doctoral work at the University of Helsinki, where our research group created a rich-presence application for S60. That application sparked my collaboration with Jyri Engestrom, a collaboration that shaped the initial launch of Jaiku and became the basis of the Jaiku S60 client.
I have worked with the S60 platform since the launch of the Nokia 7650 imaging phone, and I have been a Forum Nokia Champion since 2006.
