Mr. Jürgen Scheible
Master of Science (Telecommunications)
Germany / Finland
Jürgen Scheible is a doctoral candidate at the Media Lab of University of Art and Design, Helsinki, and currently a visiting scientist at MIT. He is the creator of MobiLenin, an application that combines a multitrack music video, personal mobile phones, and a public display into multiuser interactive entertainment. In recognition for his MobiLenin research, Jürgen, together with thesis advisor Timo Ojala, was awarded the Best Arts Paper at the ACM Multimedia 2005 conference in Singapore. At Helsinki's University of Art and Design, he runs the Mobile Hub, which is a prototype development environment for mobile client/server applications with a strong focus on artistic approaches and creative design.
Jürgen Scheible is internationally active in teaching innovation workshops and seminars using Python for S60 for rapid mobile application prototyping in academic but also professional settings. His vision is to create "new types of enriching social experiences" for mobile phone users. Therefore he develops applications that are based on artistic, social, cultural, and pedagogical ideas. As a musician, media artist, researcher, and engineer, he brings along a versatile set of skills for bridging art, design, and engineering. He states that these days, technology-driven development is not sufficient enough anymore to develop products and services that are appealing to people. We need creative people, designers, artists, and engineers working together to transform the needs of today's people into appealing, sellable products.
His main interest is in developing user interfaces and applications for group participation and audience interaction with rich media content on large screens. But he is also interested in developing creative tools for end users on mobile devices that allow them to build new types of simple applications based on their own ideas and personal needs.
