Sign up for the Mobile Web Server Challenge and get a chance to win one of several prizes and an opportunity to show your winning contribution on the Mobile Web Server forums.

Nokia is sponsoring the Mobile Web Server Challenge (“the Challenge”) to encourage and reward development of contributions and usage of Mobile Web Server resources on the S60 platform and the Internet.

Mobile Web Server is an innovative software and programming environment for rapidly programming Web content and applications for the S60 platform. Apache technology and the Python for S60 programming environment provide for rapid development with familiar technologies.

With the Mobile Web Server Challenge, you can create the following types of contributions and share them over the Internet:

  • Web pages and Web applications.
  • Knowledge articles on discussion boards and wikis.

The Mobile Web Server Challenge begins on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at 9 a.m. EDT. Contestants need to submit contributions no later than Friday, May 30, 2008, at 11:59 p.m. EDT. Click here to enter.

How to Participate in the Challenge

  1. To get started:
  2. Share your contribution on MOSH, the Forum Nokia Wiki, or the Forum Nokia Discussion Boards.
  3. Submit your contribution to the Challenge: You must complete a Forum Nokia Mobile Web Server Challenge Contribution-Submission Form for each contribution that you submit. The submission deadline is May 30, 2008, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
  4. Review the Description of Contributions and Eligibility Requirements for the Challenge.

Description of Contributions

You can make the following types of contributions to the Mobile Web Server Challenge.

Knowledge articles:

  • Wiki articles.
  • Concept descriptions.
  • How-to guides.
  • Journals/diaries.
  • Technology descriptions.
  • Discussions on discussion boards.
  • Problem reports.
  • Feedback.
Software development:

  • Demo applications.
  • SIS files that can be installed and distributed.
  • Interdevice interactive services (social services).
  • New themes for mobile Web sites.
  • Mashups.
  • Server/runtime application combinations (for example, WidSets, widgets, Flash Lite from Adobe, and Java™ MIDP).

All contributions must be shared through one of the following Mobile Web Server resources:

Eligibility Requirements

You must meet the following eligibility requirements before you submit a contribution to the Mobile Web Server Challenge.

  1. The Challenge is open to all software developers who are 18 years of age or older, including freeware developers, and to open source communities in the U.S. and Asia.
  2. Employees of Nokia and its respective subsidiaries and affiliates may not participate in the Challenge. The immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings, and children) and household members of employees of Nokia and their respective related companies, parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, and agents may not participate in the Challenge.
  3. Participation in the Challenge constitutes the participant's full and unconditional agreement to the Terms and Conditions.
  4. Entries must be the participant's own original work and may not have been published previously.
  5. Winners must agree to participate in all co-marketing activities with Nokia.
  6. The Challenge is subject to the laws of Finland. Void where prohibited by law.

Requirements for Submission

Please submit a Contribution-Submission Form, along with the link to your contribution in a shared resource.

Submit Your Contribution

Once you’re confident that your contribution is ready, proceed as follows:

  • Submit your Contribution-Submission Form.
  • We must receive all entries no later than May 30, 2008, at 11:59 p.m. EDT; we will disqualify any entries received thereafter.
  • All contributions are considered final, and no updates, edits, or changes will be accepted thereafter.

Judging Criteria

The winners will be determined by a jury appointed by Nokia in its sole discretion and by Internet judging voices, and such decision shall be final.

The jury will judge the entries from 1 to 5 according to the following criteria.

Software contributions:

  • Quality — How visually appealing is the UI of your entry? Do you use advanced graphics, animation, and other contextual features to deliver an enhanced user experience? How creative is your application?
  • Functionality — Is it easy to download and use your application? Would the end user find your application intuitive to use?
  • Usability — How practical is your application, and what is the likelihood that end users will want to use it?
  • Innovation — Is there anything groundbreaking about your application in the context of the mobile marketplace?
  • Design — Does your application leverage some of the latest technologies?

Knowledge articles:

  • Quality of the article.
  • Ease of assimilation.
  • Visibility and distribution of the article.
  • Uniqueness, novelty value, and innovativeness of the article (such as displaying creativity, using established technology in unique ways, and offering new solutions or channels).

Technical Support

Forum Nokia will provide technical support during the Challenge via the Mobile Web Server discussion board.

Prizes

Prizes and Additional Marketing Support

Nokia will award prizes for the five best contributions. In addition, two prizes will be awarded in a random drawing from the pool of all registered contributors.

Competition Prizes

The five best contributions will earn prizes as follows:

  • First prize — A Nokia Nseries device.
  • Second prize — A Nokia Nseries device.
  • Third, fourth, and fifth prizes — A service voucher for Ovi service.

The two prizes that will be awarded in the random drawing are as follows:

  • A Nokia Nseries device.
  • A service voucher for Ovi service.

Terms and Conditions

Your participation in the Nokia Mobile Web Server Challenge competition (“the Challenge”) organized by Nokia Corporation is subject to these terms and conditions (“Terms and Conditions”) and all applicable laws and regulations. If you do not agree and accept, without limitation or qualification, these Terms and Conditions, please do not enter the Challenge.

  • The Challenge Coordinator and Nokia Administrator, nominated before the Challenge, will handle any irregularities, and their decisions are final.
  • Nokia reserves the right not to designate an award recipient in any category where the judges conclude the level of entries was not of the necessary quality.
  • No transfer or assignment of a prize will be allowed. The prize winner will be solely responsible for paying all taxes and fees associated with the winning of the prize.

Privacy and Confidentiality

Nokia will handle all entries, in addition to any personal data (for example, your name, address, telephone number, or e-mail address) that you transmit by electronic mail or otherwise, in accordance with the applicable Nokia Privacy Policy. In addition, Nokia will use personal information submitted to contact
 winner(s) . For an official copy of the Nokia Privacy Policy, please contact the Challenge administrator at support.mobilewebserver@nokia.com.

Nokia will treat any other communication or material you transmit, such as questions, comments, suggestions, or the like, as nonconfidential and nonproprietary.

Limitation of Liability

  1. Nokia is not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate transcription of information, for problems related to any of the equipment or programming associated with the Challenge or utilized by the contestant, for any human error, for any interruption, deletion, omission, defect, or line failure of any telephone network or electronic transmission, for problems relating to computer equipment, software, inability to access the Web site or online service, or for any other technical or nontechnical error or malfunction.
  2. These Terms and Conditions constitute the entire agreement between Challenge contestants and Nokia pertaining to the subject matter hereof and supersedes all prior or other arrangements, understandings, negotiations, and discussions, whether oral or written. No waiver of any of the provisions of these Terms and Conditions shall be deemed or shall constitute a waiver of any other provisions hereof (whether or not similar), nor shall waiver constitute a continuing waiver unless otherwise expressly provided.

Release

By entering the Challenge, each contestant fully and unconditionally releases and holds harmless Nokia and its parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, directors, officers, employees, and advertising and promotional agencies from any and all liability for any injuries, loss, or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the Challenge or receipt, redemption, use, or misuse of any prize won, except to the extent that this release may be limited by applicable law.

Trademarks

Any trademarks appearing in this Challenge, including but not limited to Nokia, are the property of their respective owners. Any use of such trademarks is strictly prohibited without prior written explicit agreement with the owner.

General

  1. Nokia reserves the right to disqualify any contestant who tampers with the operation of the Challenge or Web site or violates the Terms and Conditions of the Challenge. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY ANY INDIVIDUAL, WHETHER OR NOT A CONTESTANT, TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CHALLENGE OR THIS WEB SITE IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS, AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
  2. You are prohibited from posting or transmitting any infringing, threatening, false, misleading, abusive, harassing, libelous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic, or profane material or any material that could constitute or encourage conduct that would be considered a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law; Nokia will fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or any court order requesting or directing Nokia to disclose the identity of anyone posting or transmitting any such information or materials; and you are prohibited from advertising or performing any commercial solicitation.
