Application Testing
Testing is one the most important phases of the application development process. Generally, testing includes module testing, system testing, usability testing, and finally testing and certification via such commonly known and industry-wide testing programs as Symbian Signed and Java Verified™. All mobile applications offered through Nokia sales channels must be certified through either Java Verified or Symbian Signed. Forum Nokia supports these programs and participates in developing and improving them to serve developers even better.

Symbian Signed
Symbian Signed is the industry-endorsed application testing and certification program that promotes best practices in developing applications and content for Symbian OS through the use of industry-agreed-upon quality guidelines.
Platform Security, which was introduced in Symbian OS v9.x (S60 3rd Edition onwards), has brought some additional elements to the testing and certification process. The "capability" model was implemented to restrict access to the most sensitive APIs and provide more security to users. Some of the capabilities are granted through Symbian Signed; the most senstitive ones also require manufacturer approval.
Symbian Signed has changed. New and simplified signing options have become available to developers, supported by a new and lower-cost Certificate Authority. We encourage developers to go through the best source of information which is The Complete Guide to Symbian Signed before entering Symbian Signed.
