I have looked everywhere and cannot find any documentation listing all of the classes and APIs for the various UIManager controls as well as for UIManager.

you could check out the documnetation, it definetely should mention in some point that Platform service APIs are only availble with WRT Widgets, thus you can not use them from the Browser.
