S60 Platform SDK for Symbian OS, for C++ Plug-ins are software packages for developers creating C++ applications for S60 devices. The plug-ins extend the features of a S60 Platform SDK, improving device emulation, adding functionality that is not included in shipped devices or adding functionality that is specific to a certain device. The plug-ins allow a greater range of applications to be built and tested using the S60 Platform SDK emulator.
The Nokia 5500 smartphone introduces a 3D accelerometer sensor that allows applications to receive information on the device's motion. This plug-in provides developers with the 3D accelerometer (Sensor) API for S60 3rd Edition SDKs for Symbian OS, for C++. Nokia expects to introduce the 3D accelerometer technology to other devices in the future.
SDK support
The Sensor API SDK plug-in is compatible with any S60 3rd Edition SDK for Symbian OS, for C++, however the Maintenance Release is recommended.
IDE support
The plug-in is compatible with all editions of Carbide.c++.
Emulator features
The Sensor API Plug-in does not provide any additional functionality to the S60 3rd Edition SDKs' emulators. The plug-in only provides the ability to compile application using the Sensor API for a release binary, as a result testing has to be undertaken on a device.
Device support
The Sensor API is currently supported on the Nokia 5500 smartphone only.
Documentation
The plug-in is provided with complete API documentation, along with an example application that illustrates the use of the Sensor API.
