Create cutting-edge NFC applications

The Series 40 Nokia 6212 NFC SDK allows you to create and emulate Java™ applications with NFC features for the Nokia 6212 classic phone. The SDK includes the Contactless Communication API (JSR-257), supporting ISO 14443-4 communication with Secure Element, with extensions for several tag technologies, peer-to-peer connections, and branding configurations.

What can I do with the Series 40 Nokia 6212 NFC SDK?

NFC technology enables mobile devices to communicate with NFC tags embedded in everyday objects or to act as smart cards. Using NFC technology, mobile phones can, for example, read a Web address from an NFC tag embedded in a poster, and then open that Web address so the consumer can see more details about a product or service. Alternatively, with NFC technology, mobile phones can act as payment cards, allowing users to make micropayments for services such as public transportation. Nokia has a trial of this type of application under way with Transport for London.

With the Series 40 Nokia 6212 NFC SDK, you are able to develop and test Java™ applications with NFC features similar to those described above.

What’s in the Series 40 Nokia 6212 NFC SDK?

The Series 40 Nokia 6212 NFC SDK contains a Nokia 6212 classic-phone emulator, Java™ APIs, example MIDlets, and SDK help. Used in conjunction with NetBeans Mobility 6.0 or Eclipse 3.3.1 with EclipseME 1.7.6, the SDK includes all the software you need to create and test NFC applications.

How do I get started with the Series 40 Nokia 6212 NFC SDK?

You should already be familiar with Java™ development, and you should familiarize yourself with the features offered by the Contactless Communication API (JSR-257) and the Security and Trust Services API for J2ME™ (JSR-177).

To install the Series 40 Nokia 6212 NFC SDK, you will need a PC running Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 or Microsoft Windows Vista Business, and you should have the Java™ Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 or later installed. To make full use of the SDK, you will also need a smart-card reader (for applications using JSR-177 features) and an NFC tag reader (for applications using JSR-257 features).
