Easily create and modify VoIP settings on S60 devices

The SIP VoIP Settings applications enable you to create VoIP settings on an S60 device supporting Nokia S60 VoIP Release 2.2, 2.3, 3.0, or 3.1. Once you’ve created settings, you can export, transfer, and import them to other S60 devices running a SIP VoIP Settings application.

For more information, go to the VoIP technology page »

What’s the latest news about the SIP VoIP Settings applications?

Version 2.0 of the SIP VoIP 3.x Settings application has been released. This new version supports VoIP Release 3.1 found in the Nokia E75 business smartphone. Support for VoIP Release 3.1 includes the ability to create settings for Voice Call Continuity (VCC) and the AMR-WB codec.

What can I do with the SIP VoIP Settings applications?

The SIP VoIP Settings applications enable you to define the parameters for a VoIP profile, which are not accessible through any standard feature of the S60 platform.

The applications enable you to create VoIP profiles and modify existing ones. Within a profile, you can create and modify VoIP parameters, such as speech-codec settings, and NAT-firewall-traversal settings, such as SIP domain-specific settings. You also can use an OMA Client Provisioning document to import and export VoIP profile settings.

Together, those capabilities enable you to easily set up devices for testing VoIP applications and to test alternative settings without having to provision VoIP settings over the air.

How are the SIP VoIP Settings applications delivered?

The SIP VoIP Settings applications are provided as signed SIS files that you install on an S60 device in the usual way. Two applications are provided, one for S60 devices implementing VoIP Release 2.x and the other for S60 devices with VoIP Release 3.x. Each application is accompanied by a guide that describes how to use the application and details the various VoIP and NAT-firewall-traversal settings that are available.

What help is available to users of the SIP VoIP Settings applications?

The SIP VoIP Settings applications are offered to you unsupported. If you encounter problems with the applications, you may be able to find solutions by using the VoIP forum on the Forum Nokia Discussion Boards.

However, full details on how to use the applications are provided in the accompanying user guides: SIP VoIP Settings User Guide for the VoIP Release 2.x application and SIP VoIP Settings User Guide for Nokia S60 VoIP Release 3.0 for the VoIP Release 3.x application.

In addition, please note the following information:

  • The SIP VoIP Settings applications don’t support these settings:
    • The Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) within Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), WPA2, and 802.11e.
    • User name, password, and password prompt within packet data.
  • A known error occurs during export from the Nokia N82 multimedia computer of access points that use WPA2 encryption. In this case, the parameter WPA-PRES-KEY-ASC isn’t written to the OMA Client Provisioning document’s file.

With which Nokia platforms and devices are the SIP VoIP Settings applications compatible?

The SIP VoIP Settings application for VoIP Release 2.x is compatible with all Nokia S60 devices that implement Nokia S60 VoIP Release 2.2 or 2.3, while the SIP VoIP Settings application for VoIP Release 3.x is compatible with all Nokia S60 devices that implement Nokia S60 VoIP Release 3.0 or 3.1. Visit Forum Nokia’s VoIP support in Nokia devices web page to see a list of these devices.
