The Language Plug-ins for S60 SDKs for Symbian OS add support for the Arabic and Urdu languages to the S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 and S60 5th Edition SDKs.
For more information, visit the S60 SDKs page »
When you install the Language Plug-ins for S60 SDKs, you enable the emulator supplied with each SDK to display text in Arabic and Urdu. This simplifies the testing of applications localised to those languages, by enabling you to perform the testing on a PC.
Each language plug-in package contains:
To make the most of the Language Plug-ins for S60 SDKs for Symbian OS, you should already be familiar with developing for the S60 platform, and you should have one of the supported SDKs installed on your PC. You need to install the language support by using the plug-in ZIP file included in the package, such as the S60_5th_Edition_Arabic_plug_in.zip file for Arabic-language support in the S60 5th Edition SDK’s emulator. To install the support, extract the file’s contents, copying it into the SDK’s root folder (for example, C:\S60\devices\S60 5th Edition v1.0). Before the extraction, select the option to merge the folders in the ZIP file with those on your PC.
Next, switch the emulator’s display to the chosen language using the switcher file — for example, S60_5th_Edition_Arabic_Switcher.zip — included in the plug-in package. To do this, first make sure that the emulator is closed. Then extract the contents of the file, copying it into the root folder of the chosen SDK and selecting the options to merge folders and overwrite files. The next time you start the emulator, its interface will be in Arabic. To switch from Arabic, use the standard language-switching routines (accessed from the Start menu) to set the emulator to English, Chinese, or Japanese.
