Introduction to the templates

The Nokia Mobile Web Templates are a series of custom, tested mobile Web styles and components. Creative developers can mix and match components as needed or use the full series to completely customise their Web site or application. This series of templates is primarily intended for mid-range devices.

Figure: Templates are shown on a variety of supported devices: such as the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic device (Series 40 5th Edition, Feature Pack 1), Nokia 5300 device (Series 40 3rd Edition, FP2), and Nokia 6131 device (Series 40 3rd Edition, FP1).

Here is a listing of what is included:

• A collection of prestyled mobile Web elements including headers, lists, data tables, and assorted copy elements;
• A short guide to each style including device compatibility issues and instructions to adapt styles or colours where needed;
• Commented Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), which can be modified to further personalise the look or behaviour of content;
• Graphical source files in Adobe Illustrator CS4 and Adobe Fireworks CS4 formats, which can easily be adapted to suit the developer’s brand or colour scheme.

Note: The templates include standards-compliant markup and validate to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards.

Compatibility

The mid-range templates are optimised for browsers that support the following CSS and XHTML capabilities.

Supported features
Content	Basic styling (i.e. font-weight, font-size, color) of common text elements including p, a, em, strong, and blockquote Basic styling of link states Ability to apply background colours or images to headers, IDs, and DIVs Good support for margins, padding, and background-image positioning
Lists	Styling of ordered, unordered, and definition lists using native bullets
Tables	Styling of table borders and copy (i.e., font-size, color, font-weight) Styling of table headers (i.e., font-size, font-weight, background-color) Styling of table captions (i.e., font-size, font-weight, color)
Forms	Basic styling of input fields (i.e., width, border, background-image) Basic support for margins and padding within forms
A colour depth of 16 or 24 bits is recommended.

• Series 40 3rd Edition, initial release
• Series 40 3rd Edition, FP1 (e.g., Nokia 6131, Nokia 6233 devices)
• Series 40 3rd Edition, FP2 (e.g., Nokia 5300, Nokia 7373 devices)
• Series 40 5th Edition Lite
• Series 40 5th Edition, FP1 (e.g., Nokia 5310 XpressMusic, Nokia 6500 classic, Nokia 6600 fold, Nokia 7900 Prism devices)
• Series 40 5th Edition, FP1 Lite (e.g., Nokia 5000 device)
• Series 40 6th Edition, non-WebKit devices

Note: Device and browser capabilities will vary. Testing on a range of devices within these platforms is recommended.
