For mobile services to be successful, it is critical that users have immediate access to the information and services they want - from banking and corporate e-mail to chat groups, online games, and the latest rumors about a favorite soccer team. To receive personalized services, customers must provide basic information about themselves, and Nokia envisions that mobile devices will become consumers’ primary tool for identification and management of personal information.
Easy, user controlled identification will be made possible through the deployment of the open identity management architecture as defined in the Liberty Alliance Project. Efficient implementation of the architecture will simplify the daily usage of subscriptions, accounts and other instances where the user must present a particular identity. It enables users to:
All this must be done in a manner that protects the user's privacy and avoids unnecessary disclosure of private information, while requiring only a minimum amount of input and configuration by users.
The Liberty Alliance specification will help the industry enable the use of mobile identities, contributing to a new type of user controlled and seamlessly compatible mobile Internet services.
Nokia's participation in the Liberty Alliance reinforces progress toward an open industry specification for seamless communications and services on the mobile Internet. In addition, the objectives of the Liberty Alliance are in line with the goals of the Open Mobile Alliance, which focuses on providing seamless interoperability of mobile services across terminals, operators and markets.
