Nokia PC Suite Connectivity API

The Nokia PC Suite Connectivity API (PCCAPI) is an integrated part of the Nokia PC Suite and takes advantage of the suite's existing capabilities. It has been designed to free the application developer from the complexity of the connectivity and transmission protocols and mobile phone system architecture.

With the Nokia PCCAPI, application developers can now add application connectivity capabilities to applications for devices based on the Series 40 platform; S60 2nd Edition, Feature Packs 1, 2, and 3; Series 80 devices (Nokia 9300 Communicator and Nokia 9500 Communicator); and Nokia 7710 smartphone. For a complete list of supported Nokia devices, see www.nokia.com/pcsuite/.

The Nokia PC Suite Connectivity API can be downloaded from here.

Note that to eliminate the need to download and install the Nokia PC Suite software as a separate product, the Nokia PC Connectivity Solution and Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver can be utilized.

Nokia 6131 NFC SDK

The Nokia 6131 NFC SDK allows developers to create and emulate Java™ applications (MIDlets) for the Nokia 6131 NFC mobile phone. The SDK includes the Contactless Communication API (JSR-257), which enables the use of the Near Field Communications (NFC) features of the Nokia 6131 NFC. In addition to the standard JSR-257, the SDK includes Nokia NFC-specific interfaces and classes. The Nokia 6131 NFC SDK contains a Nokia 6131 NFC phone emulator, Java APIs, sample MIDlets, and documentation.

The Nokia 6131 NFC SDK can be downloaded from here.

Tools for Bluetooth and WLAN Application Development

Developers can develop Bluetooth or WLAN applications in C++ for Symbian OS devices supporting Bluetooth or WLAN hardware. Bluetooth is supported in all S60 smartphones and in Series 80 2nd Edition devices. WLAN is supported in some Series 80 2nd Edition devices and from S60 3rd Edition devices onwards (device-specific feature). There are no dedicated development tools for Bluetooth or WLAN, but SDKs for C++ for each platform are available.

They can also develop Bluetooth applications (MIDlets) in the Java programming language for mobile phones supporting Java™ APIs for Bluetooth (JSR-82). JSR-82 is supported from Series 40 2nd Edition, S60 2nd Edition, and Series 80 2nd Edition onwards. The optional OBEX API is supported from S60 2nd Edition, Feature Pack 3 onwards. There are no dedicated development tools for Bluetooth or WLAN, but Java SDKs for each supported platform are available.

For IDEs, C++, and MIDP SDKs, please visit the Tools section.
