As developers creating aftermarket applications for consumers and business users, you understand the need to educate users about the S60 brand. In fact, many of you have asked Nokia to take a more active role in driving awareness of the S60 platform.
As a result, Nokia is pleased to introduce the new consumer brand:
Nokia has redefined the name, defined the promise, and created a strong visual identity for its market-leading product. Building brand recognition and preference will be a long but rewarding process. Giving a promise to consumers and business users carries with it the responsibility to keep that promise. It gives Nokia a new standard of quality, both in the platform and its implementations.
Nokia will gradually update all its documentation and communications to use S60 instead of Series 60. In industry communications, Nokia will continue to use the term S60 platform (note the lowercase p in platform), but in consumer communications, the company will refer to S60 software.
While the S60 platform has many functionalities and benefits, its core promise is extensibility. Developer innovation and licensee/operator differentiation can be added on top of the platform. As for consumers, they can choose from a wide variety of add-on applications, enhancements, services, and content to personalize their devices. This extensibility in all its forms is the true value of S60 that Nokia wants consumers and business users to recognize. S60 as a feature brand will be visible to consumers in many ways, including device marketing materials, campaigns and different online channels.
The "Designed for S60 Devices" logo program is set up for developer use in application marketing.
