A Conversation with Gravity Developer Jan Ole Suhr

Jan Ole Suhr, from Mobileways.de in Berlin, Germany, is the developer behind the smash-hit Twitter app called Gravity. If you have not heard of Gravity before, it is likely that you work for a company that does not develop Symbian applications. And if you Tweet from your Nokia S60-based device, Gravity has quickly become the app of choice for those in the know. It is a fully featured Twitter client with a highly praised user interface that supports multiple Twitter accounts; image uploading to MobyPicture, TwitPic, TwitGoo, and Posterous; multiple Twitter searches; Twitter Trends; Audio Alerts; and more.

Forum Nokia's "Ideas You Can Use" blog recently caught up with Jan to learn more about how he created and refined Gravity. His story demonstrates the potential of apps for Nokia mobile devices. In the full Q&A, Jan discusses his experiences and sources of inspiration and provides guidance for others working to develop innovative apps for the latest Nokia devices.

Webinar N97 Live Home Screen Widgets in Spanish

Forum Nokia will present a Webinar for Spanish-speaking developers interested in developing Web Runtime widgets for the Nokia N97 mobile computer on 30 September.

The development of WRT widgets is based on traditional Web technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. By using WRT widgets with platform services — such as messaging, contacts, and location — developers can create a greatly enhanced end-user experience. The Nokia N97 device is a S60 5th Edition mobile computer featuring a 3.5-inch touchscreen with tactile feedback.

In this Forum Nokia Webinar, developers will learn about the structure, development, and packaging of WRT widgets, and about Nokia's widget-development tools. The use of platform services will be discussed with instructor-led widget development. The following tools will be used during the coding part of the Webinar: Aptana Studio + Nokia WRT Plug-in 2.0 with home screen functionality for the Nokia N97 device, Forum Nokia Mobile Web Templates, and Platform Services 2.0 API. All are welcome!

Register for the Spanish-language WRT Webinar: 30 September, 10 a.m. New York (GMT -4), 11 a.m. Sao Paolo (GMT -3), 4 p.m. Barcelona (GMT +2).
