The new Nokia 6700 classic mobile device offers a thin, streamlined design and is based on Series 40 6th Edition. Its main features are an assisted global positioning system (A-GPS) receiver and Nokia Maps, 5-megapixel auto-focus camera, uplink noise cancellation, HSDPA and HSUPA for faster downloads, Flash Lite 3.0, and WebKit Open Source Browser. The Nokia 6700 classic will retail for 235 euros and ship in the second quarter.

The Nokia 6303 classic mobile device, also based on Series 40 6th Edition, is designed to help consumers stay informed, connected, and in touch with friends and family. Features include a 3.2-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and 8x digital zoom, Nokia Maps, MP3 music player and radio, Flash Lite 3.0, and WebKit Open Source Browser. Calling All Innovators: Finalists Named, Winners to Be Honoured in Barcelona

Eleven finalists have been named in the Forum Nokia Calling All Innovators competition, and they will be honoured at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, later this month.

The Calling All Innovators competition challenged developers worldwide to create mobile applications that can improve the quality of human life. In all, more than 900 applications were submitted. Finalists were named in three categories. The ECO-Challenge finalists are: GreenDrive, Mobile Ticketing, Green Phone, and TigerMap. The Emerging Markets finalists are: mPedigree, DigitalICS, and Nano Ganesh. And the Technology Showcase finalists are: PhotoMap, kReader Mobile, Neuscreen, and X Dancery.

Additionally, the top 10 finalists in each region, plus China, will be recognised as "Judge's Choice" winners and receive a one-year membership in the Forum Nokia Launchpad programme.

The winners will be announced 17 February at the Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona. Together, the winners will take home $150,000 worth of cash and prizes, plus help from Nokia in distributing their mobile applications. DeviceAnywhere is giving the three grand prize winners 100 hours of usage on their remote device testing service that can be applied to future development projects. All of the runners-up will receive 30 hours of testing time. DeviceAnywhere has more than 200 Nokia devices to choose from, so all of the winners should be able to put these time awards to good use.

All Forum Nokia members attending the Mobile World Congress are invited to join the Calling All Innovators reception and awards ceremony. The event will be held at Poble Espanyol de Montjuïc in Barcelona, an open-air museum in Barcelona, on 17 February from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. local time. Shuttle buses from the Mobile World Congress will be provided.

Meet the Calling All Innovators finalists.

Developer Spotlight: mBit Network Provides Multimedia P2P

How does legal, peer-to-peer music sharing on S60 devices sound? To more than 4,000 users in the Asia-Pacific region, very good. That's how many users signed up for a new service offered by mBit Network Pte. Ltd. of Singapore in just one month, and without a single dollar being spent on marketing. The mBit network, which enables peer-to-peer sharing of multimedia files on S60 3rd Edition devices among users in the APAC region, is now being tested in Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia with local operators.

The mBit solution preserves the intellectual property rights of branded content, and it lets users send their own content to individuals, groups, or the social network at large. Forum Nokia PRO helped mBit by supplying test devices (including prototypes), providing access to its IMS (IP Multimedia System) lab, introducing mBit officials to local operators, and demonstrating the app at live events. See Chun Yan, CEO of mBit, says Forum Nokia's help 'reduced our investment and R&D costs significantly'.

Discover how mBit Network lets S60 3rd Edition users share multimedia files.

Test Apps on Remote Devices with Two Forum Nokia Services

Do you have an application that needs on-device testing? Don't fill a shopping cart with Nokia phones. Instead, try either of Forum Nokia's two remote testing services: Remote Device Access (RDA) and the Forum Nokia Virtual Developer Lab powered by DeviceAnywhere.

Forum Nokia's RDA service lets developers test mobile applications and services remotely on various Nokia devices based on Symbian OS. Developers using the service can control a device remotely, install and run applications, transfer files, and analyse log files in real time. For Forum Nokia members the service is absolutely free.

The Forum Nokia Virtual Developer Lab offers DeviceAnywhere's Direct-to-Device technology, which lets developers test their applications on real devices on live global networks. It currently supports some 1,500 devices on 25 operator networks worldwide. Usage is billed on either a monthly or hourly basis.

New Documents:

Visual Design
The visual design section of the Design and User Experience library aims to provide students and designers in the wider digital industries with an introduction to the topic of visual design for mobile devices. The section introduces the unique characteristics of mobile devices and relates these to common concerns of visual design including screen size, use of colour, image support, and the use of fonts. The section also reviews mainstream design principles and provides examples of their application within the specific context of mobile design.
Interaction Design
This library section discusses interaction design, an essential part of the development of any product or service with a user interface (UI), whether it is a Web page, a desktop application, mobile application, or an embedded UI. Industrial design (designing the physical hardware or device) and visual design are closely connected to interaction design – interaction design must acknowledge and support the hardware characteristics, and all visual elements should have a meaningful purpose as defined in the interaction design.
