Introducing the Nokia N97 for Internet-Savvy Consumers
At the recent Nokia World conference in Barcelona, Spain, Nokia introduced the Nokia N97 mobile computer, designed for the needs of Internet-savvy consumers. Based on S60 5th Edition, the Nokia N97 device combines a 3.5-inch touch display with a full messaging keyboard and provides an 'always open' window to favourite
social networking sites and Internet destinations. Other features included integrated assisted global positioning system (A-GPS)
and included maps, 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and automatic geotagging, up to 48 gigabytes of storage, full
support for the Nokia Music Store, DVD-quality video capture, and support for Nokia's Share on Ovi.
The home screen of the Nokia N97 mobile computer features the people, content, and media that matter to online consumers.
Friends, social networks, and news are available by touching the home screen. The 16:9 widescreen display can be fully personalised
with frequently updated widgets of favourite Web services and social networking sites. The Nokia N97 mobile computer is also
perfectly suited for browsing the Web, streaming Flash videos, and playing games. Shipments of the Nokia N97 mobile computer
will begin in the first half of 2009 at a retail price of 550 euros.

Nokia Acquires Symbian Ltd.
Nokia recently announced that it has completed its offer to acquire Symbian Ltd., the software company that develops and licenses
Symbian OS, the market-leading open operating system for mobile devices. Essentially, Nokia is acquiring the Symbian shares
it did not already own. The move is a fundamental step in the establishment of the Symbian Foundation, announced in June by Nokia and several other mobile services and equipment companies, including AT&T, LG Electronics, NTT
Docomo, and Sony Ericsson. All current employees of Symbian Ltd. will become Nokia employees as of 1 February.

With Carbide.c++ 2.0, Symbian Development Gets Easier, and Free
The latest version of Carbide.c++ is now available from Forum Nokia with features that not only make development of Symbian C++ software easier but make it
easier on the pocket.
Carbide.c++ 2.0 brings support for the latest Symbian OS technologies, including S60 5th Edition (with its innovative touch
UI) and Qt for S60. The tool's new Knowledge Base Scanner, an extension to the CodeScanner static analysis tool, helps developers
optimise applications to take advantage of the S60 Touch UI. The UI Designer has also been updated to include touch UI components.
Developers can now use Carbide's Developer Edition to take advantage of on-device debugging and drag-and-drop UI design. The
Professional Edition can be used to examine the performance characteristics of applications. And best of all, the entire Carbide.c++ family of tools is now available to developers free of charge.

APAC Developers Create Applications Using S60 Touch UI
With help from Forum Nokia, developers in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region have created or adapted applications that use the
new touch UI in Nokia's S60 5th Edition. We've included a sampling of those applications below.
Actimagine: Mobiclip is a mobile video library that allows for smooth rendering of videos, even on non-3G networks.
Connected Machines: Restaurant Guide provides a detailed guide to restaurants, and it integrates the user's contact list with his or her calendar.
Flight Schedule provides a detailed flight schedule for Singapore's Changi Airport, then lets users integrate flights on their
calendars.
Kingsoft: Power Word Dictionary translates Chinese phrases into English (and vice versa) and provides a 'talking dictionary' for English.
mBounce: My Ringtone lets users select portions of their favourite MP3 music tracks to use as ring tones, message notifications, and
alerts. Card Matching is a memory game. In another game, Motion Dice Box, the user shakes the phone to play several dice games.
MobiSpace: SMS Chat lets users read incoming and sent short message service (SMS) messages simultaneously. Multiple chats are supported,
as are more than 30 emoticons. Another application, Video Alarm, lets users play their favourite videos as alerts.
Moket: The Trench Rocket game offers 20 levels of gothic-inspired, jet-fuelled fun as users try and manoeuvre their rockets through
caverns to reach the power orb. Another game, Cipher, combines Mastermind and memory-style game play; players must find the
colours in the random code to complete each level. And the Grorbs puzzle game offers 34 levels to solve, all playable right
from the start.
tenCube: The Wave Secure security suite protects lost or stolen mobile devices.
Zensis: Its Avatar SMS application lets users create animated avatars that can be exported, used as wallpaper, used in blogs, and
added as SMS smileys.
Touch new heights in functionality and usability with S60 5th Edition.

Grand prize winners will receive business contracts with either Nokia or one of the competition's other sponsors — or a cash

business-pitch opportunities, and feedback from the mobile world's movers and shakers.

Send a Holiday E-card, Help a Child
Nokia is offering a wonderful and easy way to spread holiday cheer to families and friends while also helping children in
need. Send a UNICEF Season's Greetings e-card now through 15 January 2009. Each UNICEF e-card that is opened by a recipient adds to the financial support that Nokia gives
to UNICEF.
This year, money raised by the cards will help educate children in Myanmar. Last year the e-card was sent from more than 156
countries, generating over 50,000 euros for disadvantaged children. Nokia's holiday-card collaboration with UNICEF, the United
Nations' Children's Fund, began in 1995; since 2001 the Season's Greetings card has been available only as an e-card.
The process is simple and takes only a minute or two. You can send this year's free Season's Greetings e-card, designed by
Sophie Augustin-Viguier, to as many as 30 e-mail addresses at one time. Please take a moment to share this special holiday
greeting.
