What Would You Do with $10 Million?
That’s not a trick question. It’s a question that Nokia and Adobe are posing to Flash developers through the Open Screen Project Fund, which will award a total of $10 million over the next two years, helping developers create applications and services for
mobile, desktop, and consumer electronics devices using the Adobe Flash platform.
To better promote the availability of this fund, Forum Nokia has created a new microsite that is now available.
In the next edition of the Developer Newsletter, the first round of projects that have received funding from the Open Screen
Project Fund will be announced. Stay tuned for details later this month.

Early Submission Advantage for Calling All Innovators Contest

and platforms

- Usability and creativity: Entries should leverage the latest technologies (UI, graphics, etc.) to demonstrate superior design
and ease of use

Americas Winners Announced for NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge
T+1 Solutions, developer of the Taxi4me mobile application, has won the Grand Prize, Americas edition, of the 2009 NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge. The contest, now in its sixth year, invites developers worldwide to submit location-based services (LBS) that use dynamic
positioning technology and NAVTEQ maps. Taxi4me is a mobile taxi-ordering service that helps consumers connect with trusted
taxi companies. The desired time and destination is sent from a user's mobile device to a taxi brokering server. Local taxi
companies then submit competitive bids and proposed routes back to the consumer. For its prize, T+1 Solutions will receive
cash, tools, data licenses, and devices valued at $557,500.
Three runners-up were also announced for the Americas competition. DialPlus submitted an application that enhances voice calls by providing dynamic and relevant visual information about the speakers
both during and after a call. Creativity Software entered a location-aware city guide with user-generated content and social networking. And Colombia Games won for its carpooling application. Each runner-up will receive prizes valued at $417,500.

Developer Spotlight: NFC Technology Lets Employees 'Clock In' with Nokia 6131 Devices
Punching the time clock is passé. A time and attendance solution using Near Field Communication (NFC) on the Nokia 6131 NFC flip phone was developed by Adamsoft of Celje, Slovenia, and is offered by mobile operator Tušmobil of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
NFC technology lets a mobile phone record and transmit data when it is within a few centimetres of a terminal or a tag (such
as a clocking-in facility), or when two NFC devices touch one another
The Slovenian application, called TušmobilNFC, helps companies comply with a national law requiring that all companies formally register employees' time and attendance.
TušmobilNFC lets workers 'clock in' by bringing their Nokia 6131 NFC devices close to an NFC tag, then selecting options displayed
on the phone's screen. The system, now in trials, is 10 times less expensive than comparable services, according to David
Hinic, a project manager at Tušmobil. Also, company administrators can use the system to gather data about employees, departments,
locations, telephones, and various types of presence; they can then export this data to other applications for analysis and
reporting.

Forum Nokia Introduces Three Tools for S60 Developers
The new Nokia Eseries SDK Plug-in for S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2, provides support for additional enterprise features of the Nokia E55 and Nokia E75 mobile
devices. It does so by letting developers take advantage of many Eseries APIs, including printing framework, e-mail LED, device
identification, and preview pop-up.
The Extensions Plug-in for the S60 5th Edition SDK for Symbian OS v1.0 provides 43 additional APIs to the S60 5th Edition SDK. These extensions offer improved device emulation and support for
additional device functionality. In this way, the plug-ins enable a greater range of applications to be built and tested using
the S60 device emulator supplied in the S60 SDKs. Also, for the first time, the plug-in is being delivered as an installation
file.
The Carbide.ui Nokia E75 plug-in provides designers with the ability to skin Nokia E75 mobile device-specific application, highlight, and icon resources.
By extending the features of Carbide.ui, the plug-in lets developers create themes for the Nokia E75 smartphone.
All three tools are available now on the Forum Nokia site as free downloads.
